I watched this on DVD under the new name “Strike!” just for kicks and actually did enjoy it. It’s basically another Dodgeball/Blackball type of strange sports comedy.As far as the guy that would rather bleed to death…he only watched the first half hour which is what got me hooked on the movie. Oscarz Pizza and all of it’s little quirks (see for yourself) was hilarious! The league matches montage was worth a few good laughs too. I’m not sure what this guy was watching, but if he had a sense of humor he should have enjoyed it…oh…and he called Life Free or Die Hard “Fantastic” and “Refreshing”…If you liked National Lampoon’s Blackball, Dodgeball, Grandma’s Boy etc. etc. you ought to enjoy this movie.

Incendiary

I actually find myself pitying the clowns who don’t get/won’t get this mpeg. They are either brain dead or dead at the core… because not being touched by the events strung together here is really not paying attention to the flick or to the current state of things. The acting is superb by everyone, obviously especially Michelle Williams. It’s a gutsy move to bring in an American to play this blue collar East Ender but she pulled it off with astonishing aplomb. The photography is sensational and helps the emotional story emerge… that is, if you’re interested in a story that deals in emotions, which is to say people, which is to say drama. If you don’t want drama or people or emotions this is not the flick for you. Perhaps no clip is for you, but fear not, there are video games for you.

The plot is a mishmash of several dei ex machina (if that’s the correct Latin grammar); the acting consists of deadpan stares broken by occasional hysterics (by the male lead as well as the females); the gratuitous view of Catherine Deneuve’s (or somebody’s) breasts are worthy of a Budweiser commercial; the repeated cacaphonous orchestra rehearsal in the abandoned building is I’m sure heavy with meaning in the director’s mind but to me is just one more stupid symbol thrown into this meaningless movie — I’m ranting because my time has been wasted watching this scam excuse for an art flic. The scenery is beautiful and the fuck scene is hot — but underneath his clothes, this king has no substance.
